Item Details
These earrings feature a pink and mustard diamond shaped geometric design, hand illustrated onto recycled wood using water based paint.
'Precious' is a word often used to describe stones like diamonds, these earrings are made from precious recycled wood. Their name is tongue in cheek but also thought provoking, what is precious? Is it a scarce raw material extracted using often ecologically and ethically questionable methods? To me the woods that I use are precious. They are all recycled, and have their own stories first as trees growing in ecosystems and literally creating the air we breathe, then as any previous uses as furniture, floors, boats and many other things.
DETAILS -
- The earrings hang from a 20mm diameter hoop - choose from recycled sterling silver hand made by me, raw brass if you prefer a gold colour, or stainless steel for a slightly darker silver tone.
- The painted wood is approximately 25mm wide and 20mm long.
- The earrings come in recycled and fully recyclable, envelope, gift box and packaging.
- The wood is finished with wax made from hemp oil and high welfare beeswax. If you would prefer a vegan alternative please add a note in with your order!
- I can include gift wrapping and a handwritten personal note if you'd like this sent direct to someone, just look out for the options at checkout.
BIANCA ROSE WOOD
It’s easy to feel good about wearing jewellery made from recycled wood. Smaller pieces of this amazing material are so often thrown away, all of the beautiful woods in my workshop were rescued from waste of one kind or another, many from my past life as a furniture maker. Cutting and shaping each piece by hand brings a special quality to the shape and feel of the jewellery, and allows me to produce very little waste in the process.
This gorgeous pale Canadian Maple wood was reclaimed during a refit of the historic Cambridge Corn exchange. I originally bought the timber to make a dining table and chairs, but didn't use it all, and am so glad, as its pale creamy colour and smooth texture make amazingly tactile jewellery.
Wood by its very nature has infinite variations of pattern and tone, making each and every pair of earrings completely unique. Add hand painted detail like this soft green cloud shape, and there you go, jewellery as individual as the person wearing it.
The earrings are made to a high standard, and will happily deal with a drop of rain, but please don't wear them while swimming or in the shower - wood and water are not the best of friends! Also do your best to keep them away from perfumes and cosmetics which may discolour and damage your jewellery.
